you're my boy, blu.

+

we all know that i absolutely adore blu. so it is pretty evident that i am going to enjoy his new track "myboyblu"... but let's make one thing clear: WHEN YOU PUT AUDIO CLIPS FROM THE MOVIE OLD SCHOOL IN THE BACKGROUND, YOUR TRACK IS BOUND TO BE HOT. HOT.

if you just love, love, love this song, then you can catch the behind-the-scenes-action in the making of the music video right...here

so it looks like our devilishly cute friend, kid sister, finally got signed to a record label. this little lady will be releasing her new album, koko b. ware, come summer time on downtown records---ya know, that small label that mos def, gnarles barkley, spank rock, and justice are on... yeah, she's going to blow up (even more so) very soon.

a few things to celebrate.

first and foremost let me give a shout out to my girl tina sultini. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MA. if you see her on the streets of grand rapids, make sure you holla at her and give her a nice ass flash (or something equally offensive). love you, girl.

while we're giving birthday shout outs, we should also celebrate the birth of one of my favorites, erykah badu. she may be 36, but she is lookin' more fly than ever. also, you should either pick up, or think about picking up, her new album new amerykah part one because yes, it did drop today. releasing albums on your birthday? that is so classy.

while we are celebrating, we might as well hype up for the release of the incarcerated. remember shyne? probably not because he's been in prison since 2001...the only songs that i remember were his guest appearances in total's "sittin' home" and 112 "anywhere." apprarently he has two full-length albums (one he made in prison) that i now feel obliged to check out due to his public prison release.

shyne was the guy that took the fall for puff daddy and j-lo during that whole club shoot-out... yeah, one more reason why sean combs is just a little bitch. after seven years of sittin in a cell, shyne will be released this year because of his "good behavior". way to go, shyne. way to go.

it is rumored that NAS and JAY-Z will be releasing a duet album come next year titled "kings of hip hop". this is excellent news. but it would be even better if i knew it were true. i guess we'll see.

for all of you that are into the whole white-man-rapping-with-phat-beatz scene, atmosphere's slug and ant are putting out a weekly 'talk show' on youtube to promote their upcoming album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. you can check out the first episode here. here. here. suprisingly they are charming even with their whole nascar-loving look.

to end this ,yet, another amazing post, i will leave you with common's new version of the light (version '08 it's love), which was produced by main man just blaze. besides the first ten words of the song, it sounds nothing like the other ten million versions. one more reason to take a listen.

bitches & ear candy.

best website ever? two things that i love most: dogs and beatboxing. (it takes about a minute to upload on the webpage... but trust me, it's worth every second)

oh yeah, you can even record your own beat and send it to someone. AY YO' TRIP.

new n.e.r.d. anyone?

for those who are interested in the sultry seductions of mainstream r&b: looks like it ain't your day.

ne-yo was allegedly arrested for reckless driving. what a badass. nothing is more cut-throat than reckless driving. not to mention that he looks like a serial killing rapist in his mugshot. i think i can vouche for everyone when i say thank you for sticking to hats, ne-yo. yikes.
word on the street is that j. holiday also got arrested for a speeding caravan and... surprise, surprise...possession of the leading lady, mary jane.

moving on to the highly talked about NIGGER...(nas's new album... c'mon people)
snippets of the single "what it is" from the upcoming album has been leaked for some time now... but everyone is still knuckles up about what to do with the beats.
this is the recent dj khalil version:

and this is the original:

everyone else can decide their favorite, but i will remain indifferent -- for the sake of peace and hip hop.

terrible duets & amazing collabos.

it's strange to think that i have had this blog for exactly one month without mentioning chris brown and all his flyness. corey thomas has asked me about my thoughts on his new single "no air" with jordin sparks. while i am so over last year's season of american idol, i am also over this tragic duet.

DAYUM. chris brown is lookin good from his oversized beanie down to his dunks. can't say the same about ms. jordin (ZING!).

favorite youtube comment about this music video:
choconcreamqueen said:
how she aint got no air when she got all dat wind blowin in her face?!

most pathetic youtube comment about this music video:
Sork531 said:
i love this song, every time i listen to it, it reminds me of my camp girlfriend and how we can only see each other once in a while =[

fer real? camp girlfriend? that comment has solidified the lameness of this song.

so while i love chris brown with all my heart, he is so much better than this. this is me hating on jordin sparks.

turning away from bad match-ups, let's talk about something that is dynamite in the world of pairs.

prefixmag.com has said that common and q-tip are in midst (it's about damn time) of working on their group project, the standard. apparently q-tip will be producing the majority of the tracks, while they might recruit kanye for a couple as well. mmm, i can't wait.

speaking of hot future events...
the roots new album, rising down, will be released on april 29th. while that is prime news in itself, what makes it even greater are the guest features from mos def, talib kweli, wale, chrisette michelle, and potential contributions from lupe, common, and q-tip.

RISING DOWN'S tracklist (tentative):
01 RISING DOWN
02 GET BUSY
03 BLACK'S RECONSTRUCTION
04 APOLOGIZE
05 CRIMINAL
06 I CAN'T HELP IT
07 SINGER MAN
08 UP THERE
09 LOST DESIRE
10 THE SHOW MUST GO ON
11 RISING UP
12 BIRTHDAY GIRL

remixes & crazy animal luvrz.

here is something that all the hipster hopsters will enjoy:

come february 26 the psychodelic-pop-danceable-rock-[insert genre here] band, sunny day sets fire, will be releasing an ep of remixes on iamsound records.

the catch?

well, the ep will have remixes by diplo, css, the cool kids (see this remix below), and xxxchange (therefore the band is worth a strictly nasty mention).

apparently the world has something against aretha franklin these days. first the beyonce vs. aretha beef, and now verbal attacks from PETA (we get it, fur is murder and vegetarians are better than everyone else, blah blah).

we all know that aretha franklin is... well, a big bitch (literally and figuratively), but i almost feel bad for the broad. this is what PETA's spokesperson, dan matthew, wrote to the big-boned soulstress:

"Music lovers may think of you as a 'queen,' but to animal lovers, you are a court jester. Why not shed the old-fashioned look that adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice? Please consider donating your furs to the homeless as 'queen of compassion,' Mariah Carey, did. You'll get a tax credit for the donation, and we at PETA will all sing your praises."

wow; bribery and manipulation are powerful tools. this makes me want to eat meat all day, every day.

don't worry, though. you will never find this gal (me) wearing anything beyond faux fur.

pedos & brooklyn souls.

in recent news, r. kelly has done it again. kelly allegedly had a romp-around with his ex-publicist's (regina daniels) daughter. in defense of r. kelly, regina should of known better than to let her daughter (who is actually of age--kudos mr. kelly!) hang around this trapped-in-a-closet-pervert, especially being his publicist. shame on you regina daniels.

so what can make the american gangster album better? um, perhaps dropping a little marvin gaye in the mix and calling it brooklyn soul. so i realize that this album has been out for a couple months, but i don't feel that it is getting the love that it deserves. with that said, i am sharing the whole album for those who want their mind to be blown away. (it might take a minute or two to download on the page. patience is a virtue.)

streets & jackets.

a little something for everyone to think about to get through this harsh and unmerciful winter:

the film "street kings" is coming to theaters on april 11. if you aren't familiar with the plot line it is basically about a distraught veteran cop who has been tangled in a web of implications, in turn, loses trust in his past career and those around him. good cop becomes infected with crazy paranoia? haven't heard that one before... good thing the film stars mr. lonnie rashid lynn jr. (common), jayceon "the game" taylor (who will hopefully be out of jail by the time the movie hits), cedric the entertainer, forest whitaker, and the lead role of keanu reeves... wait a hot second? KEANU REEVES? i was just about to commend the efforts of this film for its hip hop quality, but unfortunately keanu has to ruin all of the film's glory. who knows, maybe this matrix marvel will surprise us (i still won't keep the standard bar high). you can be the judge:

well, at least the film has songs from lupe and wu-tang's rza featured in the trailer. while the movie may not be as hip hop as i hoped for (damn you keanu reeves), the soundtrack definitely has some heavy potential.

[speaking of lupe]
according to pitchfork media, chi-town's inspirational muslim has collaborated with designer dr. romanelli to create reversible jackets that contain the album artwork of "the cool."

can anyone say best valentine's day present ever?

mos west.

fast and fresh update.

found at blocksavvy.com, mos def and kanye west throwdown with some freestyle.

looks like mr. west is stumbling over his rhymes. i would too if i had to freestyle in front of mos def. maybe it's his dapper style--but he is certainly fly.

is this foreshadowing a single between the two? for the sake of muzak, i sure hope so.

tshits & vodka

although i did not watch the grammy's, i did hear buzz over the attire that nas and his posse were exhibiting. ya know, to promote his new album, NIGGER:

no shame, all game. i'm not sure if it's the shirts that are catching my attention or if it's them gold stetch pants that my girl kelis is wearing. only kelis can pull off gold pants as second skin.

well nas, you may think hip hop is dead... but we all know that niggers are well and alive. whoops, can i say that?

{news from sohh.com}

as for liquor and the hip hop life, move over patron and say hello to smirnoff. according to miss info (who is always one step ahead of me, but my idol nonetheless), smirnoff and friends have commissioned artists such as common, q-tip, cool and dre, and others to recreate songs to promote the vodka's mixed drinks. songs such as common's "the light" (my beloved wedding song) and tribe's "midnight" will be remade under said artists and will be released to the public at the end of this month. so it has finally come time to say: smirnoff is hip hop.

as for other useless (but highly entertaining) news, it is said that eminem will be releasing a new album in the near future. although i could care less about eminem's lame attempt to please audiences, what i'm more concerned about is the fact that he wrote a song about a fling between him and my girl mariah carey. SAY WHAT? is this new news to you? because it sure was new news to me. apparently (this is just a rumor, which obviously means it's fact) mariah is blazed over the issue and wants to sue mr. mathers for slander--but if i were her, i would sue for rape because there is no other excuse for sexin' around with eminem.

speaking of mariah, she has a new single (touch my body), which i'm sure no one but me (and a select few) would appreciate. and no, mariah isn't a guilty pleasure... my love for her is 100% genuine.

touch my body? please & thank you.

we love jay dee.

unfortunately time slipped through my little blogging fingers last night, which prevented me to make an appropriate post to commemorate the one and only j dilla ( feb.7, 1974 - feb. 10, 2006).

another one of detroit's finest and flyest.

we all show love for the deceased in different ways, but this is how they do in denmark (i must say, a much more smoother fashion than in the states):

la la land & cell phones.

let's face it, los angeles has a pretty sleazy image-- it's the kingdom of soul stealing talent.

first things that come to my mind when i think of LA: fake tits, fake hair, fake lips... basically all fake all the time. ya know, much like my girl, barbie--->

newsflash: taken from LA Times, this city is more real than you think. The city's new charter school will have a four year requirement of hip hop related courses. that is straight up cut. the article touches on chances that there will be students who do not fully appreciate/enjoy hip hop-- let's get serious, there is not one damn heartbeat out there that doesn't enjoy some aspect of hip hop. and if there are, then they must live a life soaked in misery.
click to read the whole article.

personally, i think schools should start incorporating hip hop at a younger age. get them young'ns while their fresh and easily influenced:

moving on....
let's congratulate timbaland for becoming verizon wireless' first ever "mobile producer in residence." it's actually happening; timbaland and verizon are TAKING OVER THE WORLD. for further information on this breaking conquest, you can read on it at mobiltor.com.

singles of the weekend:

"prey on sluts"---enough said. done and done.

we are all waiting patiently until april when the album drops, but that doesn't mean we can't taste the blow before we sell.

gaming & tributes

video games have always held a nerdy reputation (although i have always thought that they were fly as hell). sure, games like "rockstar" and "guitar hero" have put an edgy spin on game systems, but now we can finally feel the groove that every gamer wants to attain; it is now safe to say that video games are hip hop.

according to kotaku.com, NBA Ballers: Chosen One will have an original score produced by just blaze (just in case you haven't been educated, you can hear beats from him on albums such as: jay z - the black album, blueprint I & II, kingdom come, etc.; kanye west - late registration; ghostface - fishscale; talib kweli - the beautiful struggle, eardrum; big pun - yeeeah baby; and basically on any hip hop/r&b record that is hot-- yeah, he's a pretty big deal).

along with just blaze, public enemy's chuck d will be utilizing his vocals as an announcer and other scripted voices in the game. you can read more on the situation here. how sweet it is to be a nerd.

let's take a turn down memory lane. since it is about 4 a.m. (eastern time), that means it is now februrary 7, which then means it is the anniversary of big pun's death. not only was big pun real as hell by sporting a full figure, he was also the first latino rapper to go platinum. now that's what i call fresh to death, or should i say frescĂsimo?

he does luh dat chicken

this is why people rarely hate on snoop:

i'm not sure why the song posted below (coffee girl) is worthy for spotlight, but i think it might have something to do with the hook: GRIND ME THAT COFFEE, GIRL. i don't even like coffee (but i do love me some grinding).

rants&shit.

apparently diddy (or whatever he calls himself these days. who does he think he is, prince?) is going to have a new vh1 series (see ya mtv?). the point of the series is to discover a personal assistant for him.

i can respect a man (especially a rapper) with cash money, but honestly, who would want to be an assistant to fuckin' puff-daddy-sean-john-combs-diddy? i don't need some talent-crashing dick-lip telling me i'm too fat and lazy everyday. that's what my mom is for (except i love my mom). where does diddy get off telling people what to do? he hasn't done anything great since he signed b.i.g. (which was over 15 years ago)
i've only come to one conclusion: diddy, you are NOT hip hop.

how can you call somebody hip hop when they picked this guy (the eminem look-a-like douchebag to the right) to be the next big solo artist? (i will bite my lip if it happens)

how can you call somebody hip hop when they got DENIED by j-lo?

how can you call somebody hip hop who files lawsuits over their facial acne? so not fresh.

[not to regress, but speaking of prince....]
to the untrained eye, this might not be hip hop, but it is pretty awesome... therefore it is hip hop.
a tribute album to prince is in the works, and by the looks of the track listing and featured artists, shit is gonna be real:
1. D'Angelo: "She's Always in My Hair"
2. Stina Nordenstam: "Purple Rain"
3. Blue States: "Alphabet Street"
4. Susanna and the Magical Orchestra: "Condition of the Heart"
5. Osunlade: "Crazy You"
6. Hefner: "Controversy"
7. The Dynamics: "Girls & Boys"
8. Broadway Project [feat. Jeb Loy Nichols]: "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker"
9. 7 Hurtz with Peaches: "Sexy Dancer"
10. Soulwax: "Starfish & Coffee"
11. Rob Mello: "Critical"
12. LB: "The Future"
13. Kode9 & the Spaceape: "Sine of the Dub"

i'm not sure why i'm still crazin on black milk, but that man is nasty. maybe i'm diggin on the fact that he's a decent midwest producing rapper that is not from chicago, but from detroit. it might be because he can produce beats in less than 15 minutes from scratch:
